K Line's Car Carrier Orders Focus on Expanding European Short Sea Shipping
Japan's K Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha) placed an order for four 1,380-vehicle capable LNG-fueled vessels for its European subsidiary KESS. The vessels, measuring approximately 426 feet (130 meters) and built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing), are designed for short sea shipping in Northern Europe and the Baltic with 1A Ice Class rating. KESS currently operates a fleet of 11 vessels serving 13 countries and approximately 27 ports, transporting between 800,000 and 1 million cars per year for major car manufacturers.
