ABS Calls for More Flexible IMO Decarbonization Framework
ABS urges regulators to adopt a more flexible approach to the IMO's greenhouse gas reduction framework, arguing that fuel availability and infrastructure constraints could hinder compliance. The classification society's position paper warns against relying exclusively on fuel-switching, noting only 10% of global fleet tonnage can operate on alternative fuels. ABS advocates for greater recognition of energy-efficiency measures and projects alternative fuels will account for only 17% of the industry's fuel mix by 2030.
