Expedition team expertise trumps destinations in Aurora survey
Aurora Expeditions surveyed over 700 expedition travellers, finding that 95% ranked expedition team expertise over destination as the most important factor when deciding on a voyage. Itinerary came second (94.2%), followed by small ship size (93.3%) and landing opportunities (92.9%). The survey reflects rapid expansion in the expedition cruise sector, with global capacity forecast to grow 150% between 2019 and 2029, and Australian participation rising 22% year-on-year from 9,000 in 2024 to 11,000 in 2025.
