Greenland Limits Cruise Ship Access to Fjord Areas
The Government of Greenland is advising cruise ships to avoid sailing in some fjord areas following concerns from local residents. Naalakkersuisut, the cabinet and chief executive body, stated the recommendation aims to limit impact on vulnerable natural areas and wildlife while preserving recreational values and hunting and fishing opportunities. Qaqortoq and Nanortalik are among the most popular destinations, with more than 20 calls scheduled for the coming weeks from brands including Carnival, Oceania, Azamara, Seabourn, Viking and others.
