US Forces Disable Panama-Flagged Container Ship in Gulf of Oman
U.S. Navy forces disabled the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova on 11 August while sailing toward an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman, allegedly breaching the U.S. blockade against Iran. According to CENTCOM, an MH-60 helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles into the engine room after the vessel ignored repeated warnings. The incident occurred approximately 71 nautical miles off Pakistan's coast. All 17 crew members evacuated safely. CENTCOM reported three non-compliant vessels were disabled and two boarded, with 55 commercial vessels redirected.
