US Moves to Further Increase Economic Pressure on Iranian Oil Trade
The Trump administration announced new sanctions through OFAC on May 11, designating 12 individuals and entities for enabling the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' oil sales to China. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated the program will continue depriving Iran of funding for weapons and nuclear programs. The blockade has prevented Iranian crude oil exports by sea for 28 days, with Kharg Island loading no tankers since May 6, though CIA estimates suggest Iran can withstand pressure for three or four more months.
