The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation reports that, in compliance with Provision 20/2026 of the Undersecretariat of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries, it successfully detected a new foreign-flagged vessel operating within the Argentine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). In this regard, sanctions were imposed on the owning company for $1,844,000,000, equivalent to 1,000,000 Fishing Units (FU).
This is the vessel “Farruco”, flying the Spanish flag, the fifth vessel sanctioned so far this year. Both in this procedure and in previous actions carried out under the aforementioned legislation, the presence of the Argentine Naval Prefecture and electronic detection technology is highlighted, to effectively apply economic sanctions.
These measures are part of the zero-tolerance policy against illegal fishing, reaffirming the commitment of the Argentine State to defend sovereignty over marine resources and protect national fisheries.
