The National Maritime Authority became aware of the incident after a call to 106 from a neighbor who reported that, while at Varese beach, they spotted a water sports enthusiast about 300 meters offshore, near Cabo Corrientes, apparently having difficulty returning to land.
For this reason, a semi-rigid boat equipped with PNA rescue swimmers was urgently dispatched to the indicated location. Upon arrival, they found a man who was windsurfing and whose sail had broken, making him unable to return to shore.
In this context, the rescue swimmers pulled the 53-year-old man from the water, verifying that he had the relevant safety equipment, and transported him aboard the Force's vessel to a local yacht club.
Upon docking at the club, medical assistance was offered, but the water sports enthusiast stated that he was in good health and declined it, thanking the Coast Guard personnel for their work and leaving the scene on his own.
