The meeting was organized by the Indian Coast Guard, in fulfillment of the commitment made during the last World Summit, held in Italy, and its main objective was to coordinate the efforts of the participating services for the organization and planning of activities prior to the next edition. Among the initiatives addressed was the development of a platform for the exchange of experiences and information and the generation of technical cooperation opportunities.
Representatives from coast guard services and maritime organizations from Algeria, Australia, Belgium, Benin, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Italy, Latvia, South Korea, Lithuania, Bahrain, United States, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Vietnam, and the United Kingdom, among other countries, participated in the meeting.
During the first day, modifications to the guidelines and recommendations applicable to the Summit were discussed, as well as the updating of information exchange mechanisms and the development of a website designed to facilitate interaction among participating institutions.
On the second day, progress was made on issues related to the development of technical cooperation agendas, as well as the coordination of future meetings and joint work activities.
Participation in this meeting allowed for strengthening the Institution's international presence, sharing knowledge and best practices in security and coast guard services, and deepening cooperation ties with peer organizations from different regions of the world.
Likewise, these instances contribute to consolidating channels for technical cooperation and exchange of experiences, favoring capacity building and the coordinated approach to common challenges faced by the international maritime community.
