Algeciras Presents Its First Green Excellence Port Awards

The Bay of Algeciras Port Authority (APBA) held the IV Meeting of Companies Joining the Green Strategy at the Millán Picazo Auditorium, bringing together the 47 entities that make up this collaboration network. The main highlight of the event was the presentation of the 1st Green Excellence Awards, created by the APBA to recognize the best environmental initiatives carried out within the port sector.

In this inaugural edition, the jury granted the 1st Green Excellence Award, in the Environmental Action category, to Moeve for its Mar Inea project, an ecological restoration initiative aimed at recovering seagrass meadows through innovative techniques. The finalist projects in that category were also announced, submitted by Acerinox, APM Terminals Algeciras, Gabarras y Servicios, Península, and Stone Brothers Group, selected for their contribution to sustainability, environmental innovation, and the improvement of the port environment of the Bay of Algeciras and Tarifa.

The event was opened by the APBA Chairman, Gerardo Landaluce, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between companies, administrations, and knowledge centers to move toward a more sustainable, competitive port model committed to the energy transition. During the meeting, progress and initiatives related to climate change adaptation, decarbonization, and environmental management were shared.

Among the topics addressed, progress was presented on the Climate Change Adaptation Plan being developed by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid for the APBA, as well as the tools that the Andalusian Climate Change Office makes available to companies and administrations to advance climate action and emissions reduction. Projects led by companies participating in the Green Strategy, such as Transpiedra and Moeve itself, were also presented. With this fourth edition, the APBA reinforces an initiative that continues to grow as a space for collaboration to drive sustainability and environmental innovation within the port community.
