AskChief, a specialized artificial intelligence platform for technical and HSQE teams in the maritime sector, announced the opening of its platform to the general market. The company made this announcement after surpassing 100 vessels in less than a year of live operational use with shipowners and ship managers.
According to the company, in deployments carried out with clients, use of AskChief typically triples during the first 90 days, reflecting how quickly it becomes integrated into teams' daily work. Among the ship operators that have worked with the platform are Seanergy Maritime, Castor Ships, Iblea, Delia and IMECS, the latter part of the Itochu Group, whose technical and HSQE teams helped shape the AskChief Technical and AskChief Compliance modules based on real tasks performed onboard vessels and in shore-based offices.
Stamatis Tsantanis, Chairman and CEO of Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp, noted that AskChief's AI turns specialized technical and regulatory knowledge into clear answers that maritime professionals can use in real time, whether onboard or in the office, calling it the kind of tool any modern fleet should use. Sources indicate that shipping companies already hold the knowledge they need, but that it tends to be scattered across manuals, safety management systems, vessel records, past cases and staff experience, causing teams to waste time rebuilding context and preventing lessons learned on one vessel from always reaching another.
Michalis Gkontas, co-founder and CEO of AskChief, stated that a generic AI can provide an answer, while a specialized one moves the work forward, explaining that the platform is built around each shipping company's own knowledge and experience. Vassilis Mavrogiannis, co-founder and Maritime Director of the company, added that after 20 years in the maritime industry he learned that the real obstacle is not a lack of expertise but getting the right evidence to the right person at the right time, and that AskChief does that groundwork on manuals, vessel history and past cases so that superintendents, chief engineers and DPAs can focus on evaluating the information and deciding on next steps.
