MacGregor has received an order from Wallenius Wilhelmsen to carry out PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) upgrade projects on 35 Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC). The order was booked in MacGregor's third-quarter 2026 order intake, and the upgrades will be carried out in line with each vessel's sailing schedule and availability.
Scope of work
The scope of supply for the 35 vessels covers the upgrade of the stern ramp PLCs. In line with Wallenius Wilhelmsen's sustainability objectives, the replaced controllers will be stored on board as spare parts for the rest of the RoRo equipment or for other vessels fitted with the same system.
A long-standing relationship
MacGregor originally supplied the equipment during the design and construction phases of these vessels, and the company notes that this contract reinforces its position as a long-term partner capable of supporting the assets throughout their entire lifecycle, from delivery to end-of-service upgrades.
Statements from both parties
Tom Forrester-Coles, Fleet Director and Head of Marine Technical Operations Management at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, noted that amid a competitive market and high customer expectations, the carrier is seeking to reduce operational disruptions and keep its systems up to date through a standardized fleet-wide obsolescence management approach. For his part, Tomas Hakala, Executive Vice President of Global Services at MacGregor, highlighted that the relationship with these vessels dates back to their initial design and construction phase, making this program a natural continuation of the collaboration between the two companies.
