The Port of Iquique received a new shipment of 396 Bess (Battery Energy Storage System) batteries with the call of the vessel MV Green Río Grande, arriving from the port of Taicang, China. The cargo is bound for the Atacama Solar photovoltaic project, located in Tamarugal Province, in the interior of the Tarapacá Region.
According to sources, the Atacama Solar project's infrastructure is considered key for the storage of energy from Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Sources (NCRE).
The port logistics operation was led by the shipping agency Somarco and carried out by the stevedoring company Conosur Logistic together with port workers, applying safety and efficiency standards.
Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) stated that this operation strengthens its positioning as a key logistics hub for the northern macro-zone, facilitating the arrival of technological inputs that drive Chile's clean energy matrix and benefit the development of Tamarugal Province and the entire Tarapacá Region.
