The Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority announced that Ferretti Group obtained approval to expand a production hall at its shipyard in the Port of Ancona. The expansion will enable the construction of superyachts up to 100 meters in length and will be completed within six months.
Approval Process
The permit constitutes the first individual Single Special Economic Zone (SEZ) authorization issued at the port, and the process was completed in 54 days, with approval from all administrations involved. The Municipality of Ancona provided administrative and technical support, while the Marche Region fostered cooperation between the port authority and the national SEZ structure to apply the fast-track procedure. Giosy Romano, sole coordinator of the Southern Italy SEZ, signed the authorization alongside Mirco Carloni, president of the Port Authority. Marche joined the Single SEZ framework under Law No. 171 of November 18, 2025.
Economic Impact
Sources differ on the project's value and impact: while Baird Maritime and Ports Europe put it at 3 million euros (about 3.36 million dollars), Portal Portuario reports an investment of 3.4 million dollars. Likewise, Carloni estimated the overall economic impact of the first project and associated industrial initiatives at around 30 million euros according to Baird Maritime, a figure Portal Portuario reports as approximately 34 million dollars, also citing statements by Carloni about significant new investments. The Mayor of Ancona, Daniele Silvetti, and the Marche Region's Councillor for Ports, Giacomo Bugaro, also praised the outcome as a boost for the nautical industry and for the streamlining of procedures.
Shipyard History
The Ancona shipyard was founded in 1963 as CRN and became the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in 2019, with capacity for full-custom steel and aluminum construction of vessels between 45 and 95 meters. Among its recent deliveries is the hybrid superyacht Amor à Vida, 67.55 meters, delivered in May 2025. Separately, Fincantieri obtained a concession of more than 314,000 square meters at the same port in November 2025.
