SLNC York Crew Evacuated Following Shaft Seal Failure in Pacific
The US-flagged general cargo vessel SLNC York crew were safely evacuated on 18 August after the vessel began taking on water in the Pacific Ocean while en-route from Hawaii to Naha, Japan. A shaft seal failure caused uncontrolled water ingress in the engine room and mechanical room. The Hong Kong-flagged LPG carrier Pacific Yantai responded to the distress call and safely transferred all crew members. No injuries were reported.
