Alternative-Fuel Ship Orders Slow as Owners Hedge Fuel Bets
Orders for alternative-fuelled vessels totaled 36 units in May, bringing 2026's total to 119 vessels according to DNV's Alternative Fuels Insight platform. LNG continues leading with 60 orders, while LPG/ethane carriers account for 50 orders. Despite continued activity, the share of alternative-fuelled vessels in total contracted tonnage remains significantly lower than in 2025, reflecting shipowners' increasingly diversified approach to decarbonization investments.
