Danube River Low Water Levels Strand Cruise Vessels in Hungary
Near-record low water levels on the Danube River have disrupted tourism and stranded cruise vessels north of Budapest. Hungary's Water Authority reported the water level fell to within eight centimeters of the record low set eight years ago. MAHART-PassNave CEO Laszlo Somodi stated the operator has seen an 18% drop in bookings in July, with international river cruises carrying about 600,000 passengers annually. Services could resume next week if water levels rise as expected.
