U.S. Removes Security Restrictions on Nigerian Vessels After 12 Years
The United States lifted decade-old security restrictions on vessels arriving from Nigeria, according to Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola. The Conditions of Entry (CoE), imposed by the U.S. Coast Guard in June 2014, required enhanced scrutiny for ships calling at Nigerian ports. The decision follows improvements in Nigeria's maritime security framework and compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, assessed through four evaluations between March 2024 and April 2026. The move is expected to reduce shipping costs, improve vessel turnaround times, and enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian ports.
