Port of Long Beach Offers $1M Prize for First Methanol Bunkering
The Port of Long Beach approved a $1 million incentive award for the first vessel to conduct full-scale methanol bunkering at the port. The "Clean Fuel Bunkering Challenge Incentive Award" targets dual-fuel methanol ships, with about 400 currently in operation. Methanol offers significant emissions reductions: 95 percent less particulate matter, 99 percent less sulfur oxides, and 60 percent fewer nitrogen oxides, benefiting air quality in smog-affected areas near the port.
