ABS, Polaris Shipping, HHI & AVIKUS Sign Agreement for Unmanned Bridge
ABS, Polaris Shipping, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and AVIKUS have signed a four-party Concept Study Agreement for implementing a Conditional Unmanned Bridge on one of Polaris Shipping's 325K Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs). The phased autonomous navigation concept enables unmanned bridge operation during deep-sea voyages under specific low-risk conditions, such as open-ocean passage, in line with the IMO Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) Code. The study aims to build technical and operational readiness for what is expected to be the first autonomous shipping concept to reach commercial deployment.
