Buenos Aires Ports Record Highest Movement Since 2019

The Ministry of Production, Science and Technological Innovation of the Province of Buenos Aires released the quarterly report of the provincial Port Monitor, which confirmed that, in the first quarter of 2026, the public ports of Buenos Aires increased bulk cargo mobilization by 21.3% compared to the previous year, totaling 14.8 million tons of goods. Significant growth was also recorded in the container sector, with 130 thousand units moved, 8.1% more than in the same period of 2025.

The growth in operations during the first quarter of the year is mainly explained by higher exports of grains (29.7% more than the previous year), crude oil (87.4% more than in the same period of 2025), and value-added products in containers (with an increase of 17.7%). With these results, exports carried out by Buenos Aires ports recorded their best numbers since 2019.

Available information on logistics circuits and vehicular and rail traffic indicates that, during the analyzed period, 2,066 vessels were operated, and 350 thousand trucks and 16 thousand train wagons were mobilized. Likewise, ship movement increased by 10.4% and truck movement by 10.1%.

The main products mobilized as bulk and/or general cargo were crude oil, liquid fuels, and gases (49%) and cereals and oilseeds (40%). Additionally, other products such as fertilizers, chemicals, sands, and fish, mollusks, and crustaceans were moved through the provincial ports.

The Port Monitor is a public policy carried out by the Undersecretariat of Port Affairs of the Province, which depends on the provincial productive portfolio and aims to survey and systematize the main data arising from the activity of public ports, to produce statistics that allow for more efficient decision-making and comprehensive strategic port planning.
