ABB Partners with Quasar for hybrid-electric conversion

ABB and Quasar Expeditions collaborate to retrofit Quasar Conservation, a 52.9-metre vessel originally built by Benetti in the 1970s, with hybrid-electric propulsion for operations in the Galápagos Islands. The modernisation project will extend the vessel's operational life by up to 25 years while reducing noise, emissions and fuel consumption. The system comprises ABB Onboard DC Grid power platform, 814-kilowatt-hour battery energy storage and modern diesel gensets, enabling battery-only operation during anchor and short crossings.
