APV Reduces Water Consumption by 33.8% in València Ports

The Port Authority of València (APV) significantly reduced its water consumption. Specifically, the organization's latest Sustainability Report reflects a 33.8% decrease in the ports of València, Sagunto, and Gandia. Total consumption stood at 25,838 m3, compared to 39,047 m3 in 2023.

This data, included in the APV's 2024 Sustainability Report, refers to water consumed in buildings and for irrigating gardens within the port facilities. The trend is primarily due to actions carried out during the last fiscal year, which allowed for the adjustment of irrigation zones after completed works and improvements to the network in areas where recurring breakdowns occurred.

These interventions have contributed to optimizing water use and advancing towards more efficient resource management in the port areas.

By location, the Port of València accounts for the largest reduction. Water consumption there decreased from 34,755 m3 in the previous year to 19,836 m3. This reduction represents the main factor in the overall decrease recorded by the APV.

Furthermore, at the Port of Sagunto, consumption was 5,598 m3, while at the Port of Gandía, it was 404 m3.

Efficient water management is part of Valenciaport's environmental commitment and its strategy for continuous improvement in sustainability. This commitment is implemented through the Environmental Management System of the Port Authority of Valencia, certified according to ISO 14001 and the EMAS Regulation.

The APV continuously monitors water consumption and efficiency indicators, evaluating their evolution and identifying opportunities for improvement. The results, objectives, and actions developed are annually compiled in the EMAS Environmental Statement, a publicly available and externally verified document that certifies compliance with environmental commitments and the organization's continuous improvement.
