VPA approves new environmental and energy policy aligned with Net Zero Plan

The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (VPA) agreed to update its environmental and energy policy to align it with its 2035 Strategic Plan and the Net Zero Plan for driving decarbonization. The strategy aims to serve as a fundamental instrument for the articulation of more sustainable and efficient global logistics chains.

In this regard, the VPA commits to maintaining an environmental and energy management system that not only integrates all components of its organization into sustainable management responsibilities but also tends to extend this ethical commitment to all companies established in the public domain it manages, and involves clients, suppliers, and other companies in the sector.

Thus, in addition to promoting decarbonization to combat climate change, supporting the energy transition, boosting the circular economy, and fostering biodiversity protection; it commits to regularly analyzing and evaluating the organization's activities, products, and services that may interact with the environment, in order to identify and manage associated environmental risks.

The prevention and minimization of impacts is another objective of this new environmental policy, along with training and information for port personnel. Valenciaport will also evaluate the impact of port activities by calculating the carbon footprint and will encourage the active involvement of all stakeholders in the port system's energy transition.

In line with promoting decarbonization, the Board of Directors also approved delegating to the president the necessary procedures to process the tender for the construction of a new substation, which will have a budget of USD 17 million, financed with the support of the European Commission through the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) Mechanism.

This new infrastructure will double the port's energy capacity and represents a decisive step towards maximum operational reliability and environmental sustainability.

The Board of Directors also approved an agreement with the Valencia City Council for the establishment of a nautical-sports development and training center in La Marina, in the current space of the Sailing School.

Furthermore, in view of the proposal made by the Qualification Board for the "Public tender for the granting of an administrative concession for the occupation of public port domain for the establishment of a technology and innovation business center aimed at entrepreneurship, offices, training, and events in Warehouse EFO 16 of Valencia Marina," it has selected the offer presented by the company Valencia Innovation District.

The Board also authorized a non-substantial modification of the administrative concession held by Marina Port Valencia, consisting of a surface area expansion of 6,200 square meters of land in the Marina Sur road area adjacent to the commercial port.

In another matter, a substantial modification of the administrative concession for the occupation of public port domain held by Bersolaz Spain in the Port of Sagunto was permitted. This allows for the expansion of the water surface by 39,785 square meters, to execute the second phase of the modernization, relocation, and expansion project for aquaculture facilities intended for the cultivation of sea bream, sea bass, and meagre.
