CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal and Infoport have consolidated six years of collaboration in the digitalization of stevedoring personnel and machinery management, an initiative that has allowed for optimizing resource coordination, improving operational efficiency, and increasing visibility over the terminal's daily activity.
The experience demonstrates how the application of operational-oriented digital solutions can generate sustained improvements over time in one of the most complex areas of port activity, such as the simultaneous management of hundreds of workers and equipment in a high-activity environment requiring immediate response.
Six years ago, the terminal decided to address one of its main operational challenges. With between 600 and 700 daily hirings of stevedores and intensive use of specialized machinery, assignment processes were carried out manually, leading to unproductive times during shift changes and limiting the capacity for planning and monitoring resources.
To address this situation, CSP Valencia implemented a digital platform developed by Infoport that centralizes the planning, assignment, and control of both personnel and machinery. The system also integrates the terminal's access controls, allowing each worker to automatically receive their assignment and associated equipment upon starting their shift.
After six years of operation, the solution has become a fully integrated tool in the terminal's operations. Among the results obtained, the significant reduction in assignment times during shift changes stands out, as well as a significant improvement in planning processes with an 80% reduction in the time dedicated to this task, a 50% decrease in unforeseen reassignments, and complete traceability of operations.
According to Eduardo Orellana, Production Director of CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal, "we have moved from a reactive and manual model to a much more agile one, where each person knows exactly what to do from the first minute, increasing the efficiency of shift changes."
The digitalization of this process has also allowed for real-time information on resource availability and status, facilitating more agile decision-making and greater coordination between operations and maintenance.
The project highlights the importance of incorporating technology focused on solving specific operational needs and the role played by specialized partners in the digital transformation of the port sector. In this sense, the collaboration between CSP Valencia and Infoport has allowed for evolving from simple task automation to an integrated resource management model.
In a context where port competitiveness increasingly depends on efficiency and adaptability, this case demonstrates how digitalization, when integrated into the core of operations and focused on people, can generate sustained and measurable long-term improvements.
