Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of A Coruña are finalizing the details of the agreement for the reorganization of the credit signed between both entities to finance the construction of the Outer Port.
The agreement was discussed within the framework of the meetings that the state body is holding these days with the 28 port authorities to analyze the business plans of the Spanish port system, which must subsequently be endorsed by the Governing Council of Puertos del Estado.
The credit restructuring is of particular relevance to the Port Authority, as it will provide an additional 20 million euros (USD 22.7 million) between 2027 and 2030. With this, the PA ensures financial capacity to undertake the investments planned for the Outer Port and, in addition, to continue with the renovation and maintenance works that are necessary in the docks and land areas of the inner port.
Under current conditions, between 2027 and 2030, the Port Authority was required to amortize a total of 36.5 million euros (USD 41.5 million) of the loan signed with Puertos del Estado.
Now, with the reorganization being advanced between both entities, 16.5 million euros (USD 18.7 million) will be amortized during this period, thus generating around 20 million euros for investments. This amount will be recovered with higher amortizations in subsequent years, when the development of ongoing projects leads to greater income and, therefore, greater capacity for the Port Authority to meet all its commitments.
In terms of investments, the AP A Coruña Business Plan foresees as the most relevant actions the completion of the railway access to Punta Langosteira and the commissioning of the southern area of the dock with the enablement of a new quay and esplanades for the deployment of industries linked to offshore wind power, after the confirmation that the Port Authority will receive 97.5 million euros (USD 110.8 million) from Next Generation European funds from the PORT EOL-MAR project, promoted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in coordination with Puertos del Estado.
