The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), through the Directorate General of Merchant Marine (DGMM), reports that it is aware of an incident that occurred on June 22, 2026, in the special maritime corridor in the Black Sea, in which the Panamanian-flagged vessel VICTRESS was affected during a missile and drone attack in the area.
According to preliminary information available, the incident resulted in the death of an Egyptian crew member. Due to the spread of the fire caused by the drones, the remaining eight crew members abandoned the vessel in a life raft, with subsequent evacuation to the port of Vylkove (Ukraine).
In light of these events, the Panama Maritime Authority has activated the corresponding protocols to gather official information about what happened and maintains communication with the parties involved and the competent authorities, in order to verify the details of the incident and ascertain the status of the crew.
Panama, as a responsible Flag State, deeply regrets the loss of human life and expresses its condolences to the family of the deceased crew member.
All flag vessels are recommended to take all necessary security measures when transiting in or near conflict zones and, if possible, avoid transiting through the waters of such zones, in accordance with the communiqués issued by this Flag Administration.
The AMP reiterates its commitment to the safety of human life at sea, the protection of international navigation, and compliance with applicable international maritime instruments.
