Panama Canal Schedules Rio Indio Water Project Works to Begin in 2028
The Panama Canal Authority announced that physical works for the Rio Indio water project, a strategic initiative to strengthen water supply, will begin in January 2028. Between 2026 and 2027, the bidding, awarding, and resettlement of approximately 423 families will be carried out. Deputy Administrator Ilya Espino de Marotta highlighted that water management is a strategic challenge in the face of global maritime trade growth.
