The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation authorized, through Resolution N° 200/2026, the commercialization for all uses of genetically modified soybeans, which incorporates tolerance to glyphosate, glufosinate-ammonium, and 2,4-D based herbicides, as well as to herbicides inhibiting the 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) enzyme, which allow for weed control without harming the crop.
This soybean was obtained through conventional crossing of two genetically modified events that already have commercial authorization in Argentina.
The authorization was granted after satisfactorily completing the corresponding regulatory evaluations. Regarding agricultural biosafety, the National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology (CONABIA) analyzed the characteristics of the individual events and the possible interaction between the expressed proteins in accumulation.
As a result of the evaluation, CONABIA concluded that the new soybean does not present new or increased risks compared to other soybeans and that its release into the agroecosystem is as safe as that of any commercial soybean.
Additionally, the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA) evaluated the product's suitability for human and animal consumption and concluded that the soybean is as safe and no less nutritious than its conventional counterpart and other commercial varieties.
Furthermore, the Directorate of Market Policies analyzed the potential impact of its commercialization and determined that no risks to Argentine exports of soybeans and their derivatives were identified.
This decision reaffirms Argentina's commitment to a scientific evidence-based evaluation system, which for more than 35 years has promoted the responsible incorporation of new technologies for the agricultural sector.
