The National Agri-food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) organized the second meeting of the National Inter-institutional Technical Committee on the Red Palm Weevil, with the aim of sharing progress made, strengthening coordination among the involved organizations, and defining the next steps to continue working strategically and coordinately.
During the meeting, SENASA presented the current situation of the pest in the country and the progress in the implementation of monitoring, training, communication, and technical work actions developed since the Committee's first meeting.
Likewise, measures implemented in the province of Entre Ríos were addressed, where the presence of the pest was recently detected, and actions developed to strengthen surveillance and prevention were shared.
For its part, the province of Buenos Aires presented its experience from the implementation of the contingency plan on Martín García Island, while the National Parks Administration reported on the work it has been carrying out for the conservation of protected areas.
The meeting allowed for sharing experiences and progress from the different organizations and agreeing on lines of work to continue strengthening prevention, surveillance, and response to the red palm weevil.
Also participating were the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), the National Parks Administration (APN), national universities, and the provinces and municipalities involved in the prevention of this pest, which is so detrimental to palm trees.
