The polar expedition vessel inaugurated the 2026/2027 season this Tuesday at the Comandante Luis Piedra Buena Pier in Puerto Madryn. Its arrival marks the beginning of a new stage of tourist and port activity for the province.
Chubut commenced its 2026/2027 cruise season this Tuesday with the arrival of the MV Hondius at the Comandante Luis Piedra Buena Pier in the city of Puerto Madryn.
The Oceanwide Expeditions vessel moored on the south side of the pier minutes before 8 AM, becoming the first passenger ship of the season.
With a length overall of 97 meters and flying the flag of the Netherlands, the Hondius is a polar expedition cruise ship. Its presence in Golfo Nuevo opens a new season for an activity that links the port with tourism and generates opportunities for different sectors of the local economy.
The vessel arrived with 58 crew members and no passengers on board. During its call, it will embark 164 passengers, incorporate an additional 12 crew members, and undertake provisioning tasks. Its departure is scheduled for 6 PM, when it will continue its itinerary southbound.
The start of the season renews the joint work of the Administración Portuaria de Puerto Madryn, the Government of Chubut, tourism providers, shipping agencies, and the organizations involved in each call.
This collaboration seeks to strengthen Chubut as a cruise destination and enhance the opportunities that the activity generates for tourism and the provincial economy.
