The Argentine Naval Prefecture received a protocol visit from the Minister of Justice and Public Security of the Republic of El Salvador, Héctor Gustavo Villatoro Funes, in a meeting led by the Minister of National Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, and the National Naval Prefect, Prefect General Guillermo Giménez Pérez.
The event took place at the Guardacostas Building, headquarters of the national Maritime Authority, and also included the presence of the Secretary of National Security, Martín Ferlauto; the National Naval Sub-Prefect, Prefect General Alejandro Annichini, the Ambassador of the Republic of El Salvador in Argentina, Miriam Elena Mena Gallardo; part of the Institution's senior staff, the heads of the different Federal Security Forces, among other authorities.
During the meeting, Prefecture specialists presented the Coast Guard System, a technological tool developed by the Institution to strengthen the control of maritime, river, and lake traffic and optimize tasks related to navigation safety.
In this context, it was explained how its implementation represented a paradigm shift in maritime control, by integrating information from different sources and allowing progress in the digitalization of procedures, including the preparation of electronic summaries.
Likewise, emblematic cases were presented in which the capabilities of the Coast Guard System were fundamental for information analysis and the detection of situations of interest. The incorporation of Big Data and artificial intelligence tools to process and analyze large volumes of data, enhance operational capabilities, and contribute to more efficient decision-making was also addressed.
For its part, the Salvadoran delegation shared experiences related to police work and security policies developed in its territory. In this context, the authorities exchanged perspectives on the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence as a complementary tool to strengthen police tasks, optimize information analysis, and improve prevention and investigation capabilities.
The visit allowed for a deeper exchange of knowledge and experiences between both countries in terms of security, technology, and innovation, and reaffirmed the importance of international cooperation in the face of current challenges related to organized crime.
