The Argentine Naval Prefecture saved the life of a man who fell into the river from the General Belgrano interprovincial bridge, which connects the provinces of Corrientes and Chaco.
The incident occurred when personnel from the Argentine National Gendarmerie notified the Prefecture, the national Maritime Authority, of the emergency. The Prefecture quickly deployed two surface vessels and a land vehicle to search and assess the situation.
Minutes later, Force personnel, aboard one of the surface vessels, located the victim at kilometer 1203 of the Paraná River, confirming that he was struggling to stay afloat and was being dragged by the current.
The officers managed to rescue him from the water and transport him to the Corrientes coast, near Arazaty beach. There he received initial care: due to several traumas and signs of early hypothermia, Prefecture personnel assisted him, immobilized him, and provided him with warmth while awaiting the arrival of a doctor.
Shortly after, an ambulance from the 107 medical emergency service arrived at the scene. Its personnel stabilized the man and transferred him to the "Gral. José Francisco de San Martín" School Hospital for a more complete evaluation.
After the corresponding medical checks, he was discharged and left the establishment accompanied by a family member.
The intervention was reported to the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Corrientes, which endorsed the procedure and ordered the corresponding actions.
