Between September 1st and 3rd, personnel from the Secretariat of International Affairs of the Argentine Naval Prefecture, along with officials from the Ministry of National Security, participated in the Annual Planning Conference of the USCAP Program (United States–Colombia Action Plan), held in the Republic of Guatemala.
The meeting constitutes one of the main forums for strategic coordination in international cooperation for the prevention and fight against transnational organized crime in the region. In this space, governmental authorities, security forces, and representatives of international organizations gather with the aim of establishing priorities, strengthening cooperation mechanisms, and promoting the development of operational and institutional capabilities.
In this context, the participation of the national Maritime Authority allowed for the presentation and dissemination of the various training alternatives that make up the institutional educational offer, especially those aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the maritime authorities and security forces of the participating countries.
Likewise, during the sessions, working groups and exchange opportunities were developed with delegates from different countries, which allowed for the deepening of institutional ties, the identification of areas of common interest, and the exploration of new opportunities for technical cooperation, training, and exchange of experiences.
The conference was inaugurated with welcoming remarks by the First Vice Minister of Defense of the Republic of Guatemala, Jorge Mario Lémus Paíz. Subsequently, the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Guatemala, Mr. Jorgan Andrew, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of State, belonging to the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Mr. Robert S. Allison, spoke.
The meeting also included the participation of officials and representatives from Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico, Chile, Honduras, Guatemala, and Paraguay, as well as representatives from various United States Embassies in the region, particularly those linked to the INL Program.
Representing Argentina were the Program Director in Argentina, Adam Weise, and María Sol Osuna.
In this way, the national Maritime Authority continues to strengthen its participation in international cooperation forums and promote the exchange of knowledge and capabilities with agencies and security forces in the region.
