The aforementioned course aimed to provide Port State Control Officers (PSCOs) of the Argentine Maritime Authority with the necessary knowledge and tools for the harmonized development of the CIC 2026, which will be dedicated to verifying compliance with the provisions related to the securing of cargo units and cargo transport units (CTU), in accordance with rule 5 of chapter VI of the SOLAS Convention.
The presentations were given by Prefect Marcelo Gastón Solari, who shared his knowledge and experience in the field and in the application of the provisions and procedures related to the Campaign.
CIC 2026 will take place from September 1st to November 30th, with the coordinated participation of the Member Maritime Authorities of the Agreement, in the main ports of the region, harmonized with the campaigns developed by the Tokyo and Paris Memoranda of Understanding.
During the CIC, Port State Control Officers will verify, among other aspects, the availability of the cargo securing manual, where applicable, the condition and maintenance of lashing and mooring equipment, and the correct application of established onboard procedures to ensure safe transport.
This campaign will allow for the collection of information on current practices related to cargo securing, contributing to international efforts aimed at understanding and reducing the loss of containers at sea, as well as strengthening navigation safety and maritime operations.
With the completion of this Induction course, the commitment to continuous training, the strengthening of Port State Control, and the uniform application of international instruments in the region is reaffirmed.
