The Cosco Shipping Jixiang set the record for the largest tonnage vessel to arrive at the Port of Ushuaia, Argentina, one of the southernmost terminals in the world.
The 62,000 DWT multi-purpose vessel transported equipment and materials for a 100 MW gas turbine power plant project to the port facility.
Cosco Shipping successfully completed a demanding project logistics mission in the Argentine port, demonstrating its capabilities in complex heavy-lift and multi-purpose cargo transportation.
The shipment consisted of an integrated mix of heavy cargo, containers, and construction materials packaged in ton bags, requiring coordinated handling under demanding operational conditions.
Extreme cold, limited port infrastructure, and a narrow weather window presented significant challenges. At the same time, the delivery schedule was crucial to ensure the power plant project could proceed as planned.
To manage these complexities, the project team developed detailed plans covering vessel deployment, route selection, berthing operations, and cargo discharge.
"Thanks to close coordination among multiple parties and precise execution, all cargo was safely and flawlessly unloaded and delivered in approximately ten days. The success of the operation highlights Cosco Shipping's expertise in project logistics, operational coordination, and reliable delivery under challenging maritime conditions," Cosco Shipping announced.
