Corvus Energy, a global leader in marine energy storage systems (ESS), has partnered with Servintel, a Buenos Aires-based naval electrical solutions company, to provide specialized technical support and local services to its customers in Argentina. The agreement takes on added significance following the entry into service of Buquebus' ferry China Zorrilla on the Río de la Plata.
The China Zorrilla, built by Incat Tasmania for Buquebus, began operations on October 22, powered by a 40 MWh Corvus Energy marine battery system, approximately four times larger than any previous maritime installation. The vessel is rated as the world's largest battery-electric ship and operates on a route connecting Argentina and Uruguay across the Río de la Plata.
Servintel, founded in 1979, has a multidisciplinary team specialized in marine electrical and electronic systems, including automation, control systems and energy management. The company will provide local after-sales assistance, technical training and equipment maintenance, backed by Corvus Energy's global expertise in marine battery systems, advanced digital monitoring and remote service solutions. Buquebus has been a Servintel customer for more than 30 years, with ongoing maintenance and technical support for its entire fleet.
Tor-Gunnar Hovig, Corvus Energy's regional director for the Americas, noted that providing comprehensive support throughout the battery system's entire lifecycle is essential, highlighting that technical training, remote monitoring, predictive analytics and proactive maintenance all impact the system's performance and service life. Fernando Carballo, CEO of Servintel, stated that the partnership is a key step toward strengthening local capabilities in Argentina and building a regional service platform for the next generation of electrified vessels in South America.
