Marella Discovery 2 to Become Adults-Only Cruise Ship, Adding Four New Venues

Marella Cruises announced that the Marella Discovery 2 will be transformed into an adults-only vessel in early 2027, becoming the company's second ship under this format, following the Marella Explorer 2. The ship's former children's areas will be replaced by four new venues: Amplify Karaoke, The Lost Luggage Bureau, Red Handed Escape Room and The Loft, all exclusive to this vessel.
The new venues
Amplify Karaoke is the line's first dedicated karaoke lounge, a private venue for up to seven guests with mood lighting and thousands of songs, bookable by the hour. The Lost Luggage Bureau is an immersive speakeasy inspired by the Golden Age of travel, where guests enter through a fake lost-and-found office and discover a secret bar with live music, actors and storytelling over 90 minutes; it offers two storylines, 'The Case in Question' and 'Smugglers Society,' each for up to 42 guests and including three signature cocktails. Red Handed is an escape room set in the 1920s backstage area of the fictional Cabaret Rouge, where teams of up to six have 60 minutes to solve seven puzzles and steal a diamond necklace, with clues available via a vintage telephone. The Loft, meanwhile, combines a library, board games and crafts organised into sessions such as jewellery-making, macramé and watercolour painting, and remains open 24 hours a day at no extra cost under the all-inclusive fare.
Pricing and bookings
Three of the four venues carry an additional charge and require advance booking: Amplify Karaoke from £14.95 per cabin per hour for up to seven guests, Red Handed Escape Room at £16.95 per person, and The Lost Luggage Bureau at £19.95 per person, including three cocktails. The Loft carries no extra charge and does not require booking. In addition, the ship's climbing wall, included in the all-inclusive fare, will be upgraded with a wider range of hold sizes reflecting the style of modern climbing gyms and Olympic standards.
The demand driving the change
Marella Cruises CEO Chris Hackney said the investment responds to what adults-only passengers value and to trends in relaxation, social connection, immersive entertainment and creative wellbeing. According to the company's research, 80% of passengers who sailed on the Marella Explorer 2 cited its child-free status as a reason for booking, and nearly three-quarters said it was important for the line to offer an adults-only ship.
Planned itineraries
According to Cruise Mapper, the Marella Discovery 2 is scheduled to operate itineraries around the Canary Islands from Tenerife and Gran Canaria between November 2027 and March 2028, before relocating to Málaga until April of that year.
