Siem Industries, a Norwegian shipowner specializing in offshore operations, confirmed the order of two offshore subsea construction vessels (OSCVs) from Chinese shipyard Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding. Deliveries of both units are scheduled for 2029 and 2030.
Technical specifications
Each vessel will have a length overall of 145 meters and a beam of 27 meters. They will be equipped with a 400-tonne subsea crane with active heave compensation (AHC) and an additional 50-tonne crane, also AHC. The design was developed by Norwegian firm Sirius Design and Integration together with Siem Industries and the Chinese shipyard, prioritizing operational flexibility and energy efficiency.
Background of the order
Siem Industries had already revealed in August that it had contracted two new OSCVs with an unidentified Chinese shipyard, with delivery scheduled for 2029/2030. At the end of that same month, Sirius Design and Integration separately announced a design contract for two 144.7-meter construction support vessels at Fujian Mawei, which included options for two additional units and provided for two remotely operated vehicle (ROV) launch and recovery systems.
Existing fleet
Siem's current subsea work fleet includes the Siem Stingray, an OSCV built in 2014 that features a 250-tonne AHC subsea crane and two work-class ROVs.
Shipyard's order book
According to Clarksons data cited by Chinese outlet Ship News, with this new order Fujian Mawei's order book rises to 78 vessels totaling 3.6 million deadweight tonnes, including 36 bulk carriers, 15 offshore vessels, 14 vehicle carriers, 9 container ships and 4 tankers, with deliveries scheduled through 2030.
