Goods traffic at the Port of Barcelona grew by 2% in the first seven months of the year, totaling 41.7 million tons. This growth is due to increases recorded across all types of traffic. Regarding containers, the increase between January and July was 1.5%, reaching 2.2 million TEUs. For full import containers, the increase was 6.1%. Full export containers, however, showed a different trend, falling by 10%. Full transit containers saw an increase of 5.8%.
Liquid bulk, for its part, registered an increase of 2.7% with a movement of 9.9 million tons. Chemical products, which increased by 49.2%, and biofuels, which grew by 46.1%, stand out in this section.
As for solid bulk, the increase stands at 5.3%, totaling 2.3 million tons, with substantial increases in cement and clinker (+17%) and potash (+11.8%).
The traffic of new automobiles continues its progression, now totaling 444,029 units, representing an increase of 4.6%. Imports, which have increased by 25.5%, are particularly noteworthy. By vehicle type, electric and hybrid vehicles recorded an increase of 48.1% and now represent 17.7% of the total.
Regarding ro-ro traffic, 268,147 ITUs (Intermodal Transport Units) were moved in the first seven months of the year, a figure representing a 2.6% increase.
Finally, regarding passenger movements, there were 3.2 million movements, 5.3% more than the previous year. Of these, 929,540 movements correspond to ferry passengers, while in the cruise sector, a total of 1.3 million passengers visited the city of Barcelona*.
