The Ibaizabal Group has ordered four new LNG tankers, each with a capacity of 18,500 cubic meters, primarily intended for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. The construction and delivery of the four gas carriers are scheduled between January 2027 and January 2028 and represent a total investment of USD 400 million.
This new order expands a business line in which Ibaizabal has increased its activity in recent years.
In 2024, the group signed a long-term charter agreement with the French energy company TotalEnergies for an 18,600 m3 vessel destined for the Marsa LNG project in Oman, and subsequently reached similar agreements with Shell. The incorporation of the four new vessels will strengthen the shipping company's fleet dedicated to fuel supply operations.
For Elena López, BBVA's regional director for the North Zone, Ibaizabal belongs to "a sector with a great tradition in Euskadi and strong international projection." The operation will be partly financed by this entity, with USD 290 million.
