The Argentine Naval Prefecture participated in the first edition of the International Port Fair (FIP), held over two days in the city of Mar del Plata, which brought together authorities, businesspeople, and sector leaders.
During the event, specialists from the Environmental Protection Directorate (DPAM) of the national Maritime Authority gave presentations.
Additionally, the Force had an informational stand to inform attendees about the various functions it carries out throughout the country.
During the first day of FIP 2026, which was attended by the Head of the Mar del Plata Prefecture, Prefecto Mayor José Vigano, Prefecto Maximiliano Buso Vega spoke about the Institution's contributions to the Blue Ports initiative.
In his presentation, he highlighted the role of the Prefecture in navigation safety, pollution prevention and control, environmental protection, application of national and international regulations, and technical assistance in processes related to port environmental management.
He also referred to the Argentine Network of the Blue Ports Initiative, of which the Institution is a part, along with representatives from various public sector organizations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Undersecretariat of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries, the Undersecretariat of Environment of the Nation, and the National Agency of Ports and Navigation, among other actors linked to the port sector.
Meanwhile, on the second day, Prefecto Gabriela Riviello López gave a presentation entitled "Prevention and Control of Pollution from Ships," in which she presented the main functions and responsibilities of the Force's Environmental Protection Directorate.
In this context, she delved into tasks related to the prevention of pollution from ships and the application of current national and international regulatory instruments on the matter.
Both presentations highlighted the Prefecture's contribution to strengthening sustainable port management through navigation safety, pollution prevention and control, environmental protection, and coordination with the various organizations and actors involved in the port system.
