Peru Obtains MSC Certification for Eel, Opening Up Japanese Market
Peru has achieved MSC certification for its eel fishery, becoming the first country globally to do so for this product. In 2025, Peruvian eel exports totaled US$11.7 million, primarily to South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. The Japanese ambassador highlighted that this certification will boost imports of Peruvian eel, as Japanese eel stocks are declining.
