Iran attacks two more ships in Hormuz as US threatens escalated economic measures
Transit through the Strait of Hormuz nearly ground to a halt on Friday after two vessels from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were attacked. The U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated the U.S. Navy can maintain a naval blockade indefinitely, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced new economic sanctions against Iran coming next week. Only nine vessels passed through Thursday, down from the pre-war average of 130 daily transits.
