Tanker Seized by U.S. After Weeks-Long Pursuit Lives to Sail Another Day
A tanker that evaded U.S. Coast Guard pursuit in late 2025 and early 2026 has reemerged under the name Era, now registered in Comoros and approaching Trinidad. The 318,518-dwt vessel, previously known as Marinera and Bella 1, was seized by the USCG on January 7 south of Iceland and held in Scotland. The ship's captain pleaded guilty to refusing orders from the U.S. Coast Guard, with sentencing scheduled for August 7. The vessel's current ownership and future intentions remain unclear.
