Rhine Water Levels Stabilize After Rain, Remain Below Full-Load Capacity
Water levels on the Rhine in Germany stabilized this week above record lows following recent rain, according to Germany's inland navigation agency WSV. The navigable water level at Kaub stood at around 60 cm on Friday, compared with less than 10 cm in mid-August. However, vessels can still only carry 700 to 800 metric tons, and freight rates have fallen to €100 to €110 per metric ton from more than €145 in mid-August. Heavy rain forecast for Friday could bring further relief to shipping operations.
