Saronic Selects Brownsville Over California for $3.2 Billion Port Alpha Shipyard
California Forever and a labor-business coalition attributed the loss of Saronic's $3.2 billion Port Alpha shipyard to permitting delays. Saronic selected Brownsville, Texas, after evaluating 17 states, with the project expected to create up to 10,000 direct jobs. The coalition stated California was one of two finalists but was passed over because the state's approval process could not accommodate the required timeline without special legislation that was not approved in time.
