Babcock Runs Into Costly Rework Issues in Type 31 Program
British defense shipbuilder Babcock announced a $190 million charge due to rework on the first two Type 31 frigates, HMS Venturer and HMS Active. The design-related rework, occurring at late construction stages, is impeding productivity and affecting the company's bottom line. The in-service date for the first hull has been pushed to 2027, with the Mk41 VLS system potentially installed during future maintenance.
