Vehicle Carrier Fire Forces Crew Evacuation 630 Miles South of Costa Rica
The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated the rescue of 22 crew members from the Marshall Islands-flagged vehicle carrier Min Jiang Kou after an engine room fire forced abandonment roughly 630 miles south of Costa Rica on Thursday. The motor vessel Jin Hai Ping recovered all mariners from lifeboats, with the crew expected to be transported to Akita, Japan. No environmental impacts were reported from the incident.
