The fire was reported at around 9:35 pm, when the vessel was anchored west of Vinga in Gothenburg's southern archipelago. The crew sealed the vessel and activated the ship's fixed fire-extinguishing system, then cooled the machinery space from the outside.
A large response was mounted by the Swedish authorities under the coordination of the Swedish Maritime Administration. Coast Guard vessels, units from the Swedish Sea Rescue Society, an ambulance boat, marine police and commercial tugs arrived on scene.
All 21 crew members are reported to be in good health; no evacuation was required.
The responders waited for conditions to improve, as boarding earlier was determined to be hazardous. Responders then boarded the vessel and verified that the fire was extinguished with no immediate risk of reignition. The operation was stood down and completed at around 1:45 am on 2 October.
The Swedish police have stated that there has been no indication of a criminal offence and that no leak or discharge from the vessel has been identified. The Coast Guard and the Swedish Transport Agency are carrying out an investigation to identify the cause of the fire.
